Extreme Risk Laws - IL

When a loved one is in crisis, access to firearms can lead to dangerous situations.

In Illinois, Firearm Restraining Orders (FROs) put time and space between an individual and their firearms. FROs are a civil (not criminal) order that temporarily prevent someone in crisis from purchasing or possessing firearms. By putting distance between an individual and their guns, a potentially deadly situation can be prevented and give a person the time they need to seek help and heal.

Run the new Illinois-specific PSAs to raise awareness of Firearm Restraining Orders as a crisis intervention tool in the state. Visit Illinois.gov/PauseToHeal to learn more.
